NEWFANE — For the 21st year, Friends of the Moore Free Library in Newfane have spent 11 months sorting and pricing more than 3,000 donated books.
Soon a parade of Kindle School volunteers will walk the boxes stored in the library's attic over to the Union Hall on the Green in Newfane.
This year's sale is Saturday, Oct. 5, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, Oct. 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
As in years past, they will have 25 categories of books displayed for easy shopping. The signs on 12 large folding tables will say, for example, Health, Parenting, Religion, The Arts, Biographies, Politics, Philosophy, Gardening, and Nature, though that's not the end of the story.
The most popular books are found on the tables marked Fiction and Mysteries, Cooking, and Children. There is a large selection of DVDs, VHS tapes, and CDs. This year, the pricing is aimed at more affordability.
Library staff encourages everyone to get ready to do some good winter reading. One of the library's favorite patrons shops with the goal of buying a pile of books to equal his 6-foot height.
Funds raised help with operating costs of this Free Library, which receives no state or town funding. The Friends of the Moore Free Library plan to apply the proceeds to needed technology purchases and to update the flooring.
