GRAFTON — Thistle down, birch bark, maple leaves, and lichen will once again become fairy cottages, workshops, and hideaways for one magical weekend in the Grafton woods.
On Saturday, Sept. 28, and Sunday, Sept. 29, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., The Nature Museum at Grafton will hold its fifth annual Fairy House Tour.
Visitors will follow a trail dotted with fairy houses, then return to The Nature Museum to create their own fairy dwellings in the gardens. Tour goers can try their hand at making fairy wands and crafts.
Light refreshments will be available for purchase.
The Fairy House Tour is The Nature Museum's primary fundraiser, with proceeds benefitting the Museum's environmental education programs in the schools and the community as well as its natural history exhibits.
Last year, 35 individuals, families, and organizations built fairy structures for the tour, according to the group's event announcement.
Last year, more than 300 tour goers marveled over the 35 fairy houses in the Village Park woods, including a “fly-in” movie theater, a merry-go-round, horse stables, a performing arts center, a tavern, and a sustainable house.
Advance tickets ($10 adults, $8 seniors 65 and over, $4 children ages 3-18) can be purchased at Mack's Place in Grafton, Misty Valley Books in Chester, Village Square Booksellers in Bellows Falls, and The Nature Museum (open Thursday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.).
