Brattleboro Museum & Art Center now accepting submissions for annual LEGO Contest & Exhibit

BRATTLEBORO — The Brattleboro Museum & Art Center, and aspiring builders everywhere, are gearing up for BMAC's sixth annual Lego Contest & Exhibit, which will take place Oct. 25-27.

For this popular event, Lego enthusiasts of all ages will design and build almost anything they can think of out of Legos and display their works at the museum.

“This has grown into a great community event,” said BMAC Executive Director Danny Lichtenfeld. “In the past, we've received entries from as far away as New Jersey and from contestants ranging in age from toddlers to senior citizens.”

BMAC will award participants prizes based on creativity and craftsmanship in six age groups. There will also be overall prizes for best in show, best architectural design, best use of moving parts, best title, best diorama, and best space-themed creation.

Each contestant will receive a personalized certificate of participation and four admission passes to BMAC.

According to Lichtenfeld, memorable entries have included a replica of BMAC, an amusement park, a bust of Abraham Lincoln, a model of Brattleboro's Harris Hill ski jump - complete with spectators - and a pharaoh's tomb with hidden treasure.

Lichtenfeld added that, above all, the contest intended to be fun.

“The best part of this event is that it encourages kids and adults to put their hands and minds to work in creating something original, which we are happy to put on display in the museum,” he said in the event announcement.

Contest entries must be delivered to the museum on Wednesday, Oct. 23, with a $5 entry fee. The opening reception and awards ceremony is Friday, Oct. 25 at 5 p.m., with all entries remaining on display at the museum through Sunday, Oct. 27.

Sponsors are Brattleboro Ford Subaru, G.S. Precision, Inc., and Don Robinson Builder.
