BELLOWS FALLS — The Bellows Falls Woman's Club, member of the General Federation of Women's Clubs (GWFC), begins its 2013-2014 club year with a meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at the United Church of Bellows Falls on School Street, beginning at 1:30 p.m.
Presenters are Annette Spaulding and Patrick Madden, who'll address themselves to the historic facts surrounding the adventures of an elephant named Horatio which brought him to Putney. Annual club dues will be received; the club booklet will be available upon payment of dues.
Since the club's annual meeting in May, a $1,000 scholarship was awarded to a graduating senior at Bellows Falls Union High School entering a health care field of study.
Four members of the club plan to attend the New England Region meeting of the GFWC, to be held in Hampton, N.H., Sept. 20-22.
On Saturday, Sept. 28, the club will hold a tag sale in conjunction with the annual SEVCA Flea Market. Club members and others should contact Sally McGaffigan (603-445-2527) or Betty Haggerty (802-463-4159) to arrange collection of donations to this fundraiser.
Proceeds from this and other fundraisers support the club's charitable work in the community and its student scholarship fund.
Officers said in a press statement that club members can look forward to a year with interesting and varied programs, camaraderie, and helping the wider area through projects, volunteering, and donations, all in the name of wider community betterment.
