Weekend of theater, literature at Grafton library

Celebrate this summer's reading theme, “Dig Into Reading,” with a free play at the Grafton Public Library on Friday, July 26, at 6 p.m.

The Summer Encore Theatre troupe brings pirates, treasure and mayhem to the library lawn in Grafton. Director Cathy Archer has led this Rutland-based theater group for 16 years. She and her students bring a level of energy, enthusiasm and improvisation sure to be enjoyed by all ages.

All are welcome to bring a picnic and dine on the library lawn if the weather is nice.

The following night, Saturday, July 27, screenwriter and author Peter Gelfan will give a reading from his novel “Found Objects.”

The reading will be at the Grafton Public Library at 3 p.m., followed by book sales, signing, and beverages in the Phelps Barn at The Grafton Inn from 4-5 p.m. At 6 p.m. there is limited seating for dinner at The Grafton Inn with the author.

Gelfan's “Found Objects,” set in Vermont, is described as a “fluent, engaging novel that penetrates a modern family's domestic arrangement and exposes what happens when it comes under threat and begins to unravel.”
