DOVER — Dover School student Lucas Dlubac was recently chosen as the winner the 14th annual National Ski Areas Association's National Kids' Safety Poster Contest.
Dlubac's poster was chosen as the best overall safety message out of hundreds of entries from ski areas nationwide.
The annual contest targets fourth, fifth and sixth graders, though any elementary school student can participate.
Peak Resorts' risk manager Ryan Lavoie organized Mount Snow's participation and brought the opportunity for the poster contest to teachers at Dover School. It was well received, with dozens of entries submitted to the local contest.
When Dlubac's poster was chosen as the local winner, Lavoie submitted it to NSAA on behalf of Mount Snow.
“We are so excited for Lucas to be recognized with this national honor,” Lavoie said. “He's a great kid who drew a great poster with a great message."
Dlubac, 10, has been skiing and snowboarding at Mount Snow since he was 3, and says he has been drawing for just as long.
“I've always loved to draw sharks so I decided to mix it in with my safety poster,” said Dlubac. “I wanted to be goofy when drawing the poster to teach kids and adults to be safe and stay in control when they are on the mountain."
For winning the local poster contest, Mount Snow awarded Dlubac with a helmet, a ride in a snow cat, and other items. For winning the national contest, he will receive another helmet from NSAA, and his poster will be published in the NSAA Journal, a bi-monthly trade publication dedicated to covering all aspects of the ski resort industry. Journal circulation includes 325 resort members and more than 400 ski area supplier members.
“I would like to thank my teacher, Mr. Degnon, at the Dover School and Mount Snow for believing in me,” Dlubac said.
