BELLOWS FALLS — Registration for the upcoming camp season has begun, with Meeting Waters YMCA offering four different camp experiences to give youth an adventurous, active and healthy summer.
The programs are available for youth throughout southeastern Vermont and southwestern New Hampshire. Camp open houses will be held on Saturday, May 18, from 1 to 3 p.m.; Thursday, June 6, from 5 to 7 p.m., and Thursday, June 20, from 5 to 7 p.m.
• Y Day Camp for 6-13 year-olds offers eight one-week and four two-week sessions. Y Day Camp features canoeing, archery, swim lessons, sports and adventure games, arts and crafts, nature and education.
• KinderCamp provides children entering kindergarten in the fall with these same experiences as they transition from child care to school.
• Family Camp provides an opportunity for parents to join their children in enjoying various camp activities.
• Leaders-in-Training provides a week of leadership development followed by three weeks working alongside camp staff to help campers learn, grow, and thrive.
Financial assistance is available, and transportation is available from Brattleboro, Putney, Westminster, Saxtons River, Bellows Falls, Chester, Springfield, Walpole and Charlestown.
According to Susan Fortier, Meeting Waters Y's program director, such camps provide a variety of opportunities to help ensure that youth “are learning and being physically active in the summer, a time of exploration,”
“Campers also learn how to be responsible and resourceful, work in groups, solve problems and make decisions that will help them grow as individuals, all while having fun,” she says.
Meeting Waters YMCA has been a summer camp leader for 49 years. Y camps continue to give youth an enriching, safe experience with caring staff who model positive values that help build kids' character.
