World Book Night comes to Bellows Falls April 23

BELLOWS FALLS — Rockingham Free Public Library will join with WOOL-FM 101.1, Falls Area Community Television, Village Square Booksellers, and readers around the world for the third annual World Book Night, on Tuesday, April 23.

World Book Night is dedicated to spreading the love of reading person-to-person to those without means or access to printed books.

On April 23, volunteer “book givers” will distribute half a million free World Book Night paperbacks in more than 6,000 towns and cities across the country.

An independent panel of booksellers and librarians chose 30 books of fiction and nonfiction - including mysteries, romance, sci-fi and fantasy, classics, poetry, humor, autobiography, and young adult books-for 2013.

Each book giver will distribute 20 specially produced, not-for-resale paperbacks of those titles, which are listed at www.us.worldbooknight.org.

Organizers say World Book Night is about people, communities and connections; about reaching out to others and touching lives in the simplest of ways: through the sharing of stories.

To find a book giver, visit Village Square Booksellers or tune into FACT-TV and WOOL before April 23.

Organizers said book givers distributed 300 books in the Bellows Falls area in 2012 and that volunteer participation has since doubled. Book givers signed up in February to be part of this project, choosing their book and describing how they would give away their 20 copies in an effort to encourage literacy and spread the love of reading.

Village Square Booksellers is holding a pre-World Book Night reception on Saturday, April 20, at 2 p.m.

Although it is too late to join the giver ranks this year, those interested can sign up for the World Book Night mailing list for updates on World Book Night 2014. Village Square Booksellers has regular editions available of any of the World Book night selections.
