JAMAICA — At its Feb. 11 meeting, the Selectboard agreed to endorse the Scenic Route 100 Byway Corridor Management Plan in preparation for the Scenery Preservation Council expansion public meeting scheduled to be held in March in Londonderry.
The Scenic Route 100 Byway Committee is applying to expand the Vermont Byway to run from Granville, in Addison County, to Stamford, on the Massachusetts border. Londonderry, Jamaica, Wardsboro, Stratton, Dover, Wilmington, Whitingham, and Stamford are being considered in the expansion.
The Vermont Byway Program, under the jurisdiction of the Vermont Transportation Board, identifies and designates six “intrinsic value categories” - scenic, historic, natural, cultural, recreational, and archaeological - for roads to qualify. The National Scenic Byway program is a federal program of the U.S. Department of Transportation.
The plan will be submitted by the Okemo Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Southern Windsor County Regional Planning Commission, the Town of Killington Office of Economic Development and Tourism, Two Rivers-Ottauquechee Regional Commission, the Windham Regional Commission, the Green Mountain Valley Business Community, and the Mount Snow Valley Chamber of Commerce.
Also involved are community members from Granville, Hancock, Rochester, Stockbridge, Pittsfield, Killington, Bridgewater, Plymouth, Ludlow, Cavendish, Andover, Weston, Londonderry, Jamaica, Wardsboro, Stratton, Dover, Wilmington, Whitingham and Stamford.
