ACWC ‘Breaking Into Business’ arts scholarship funds available

BRATTLEBORO — The Arts Council of Windham County is offering new “Breaking into Business” scholarships for Windham County artists and craftspeople planning to attend two-day professional development workshops.

Presented by the Vermont Arts Council, the workshops focus on business and marketing planning for artists. The program is open to Vermont artists of all disciplines and is facilitated by Maren Brown and Dee Boyle Clapp from the Arts Extension Service at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

The next session is March 9-10 in Randolph, and space is limited. Those interested should apply via www.vermontartscouncil.org.

ACWC says it will reduce the workshop fee to $50 for Windham County residents, and will help organize carpools.

According to Doug Cox, ACWC president, these workshops are a tremendous asset to those in the community making creativity their business.

“[They] not only return with a stronger business model for themselves, but also support and inspire other creative workers in our area,” he said.

According to local ceramicist Steve Procter, a 2012 workshop participant, “As important as the technical training is the feeling of support and empowerment from being with colleagues dealing with the same challenges we [artists] face in this business.”
