Obituaries
• Katherine R. (Zeno) Campbell, 93, of Brattleboro. Died Jan. 13 at Applewood Rehabilitation Center in Winchester, N.H. Wife of the late Joseph “Vic” Campbell. Mother of Elwin Blood and his wife, Joyce, of Hinsdale, N.H.; Edwin Blood of Avenel, N.J.; Brenda Howard of Putney; and the late Ronald Blood. Predeceased by 12 siblings. Born in Huntington, Vt., the daughter of the late Charles and Gertrude (Clapper) Zeno, she worked as a school bus driver for the town of Brattleboro for several years. She also worked at the Hotel Brooks as the head of housekeeping, as well as the Brattleboro Retreat, and as a housekeeper and chef for Captain Mayo and his family for many years. She enjoyed hunting and fishing, which she did right up until the end with her “best buddy” and granddaughter Karen Bacon, dancing, crocheting and gardening. She was an excellent cook, and was an avid bowler, becoming the Vermont Senior Champion with a score of 273. She was a member of the American Legion Post 5 Auxiliary. Her greatest passion in life was her family, and spending time with them at every family get-together. Memorial information: A funeral service was held Jan. 16 at Ker-Westerlund Funeral Home in Brattleboro, with burial at Meetinghouse Cemetery in Brattleboro. • Steven M. Gosselin, 62, of Halifax. Died Jan. 11 at Pine Heights in Brattleboro. Father of David Gosselin and his wife, Nicole, of West Chester, Pa.; Michelle Mozzicato and her husband, Ric, of East Hartford, Conn.; and Lauren Gosselin and her husband, Matt, of West Chester, Pa. Brother of Lois Gosselin of Jacksonville. Born in Hartford, Conn., the son of the late Eugene and Doris (Prescott) Gosselin, he graduated from Manchester High School and earned his Bachelor and Masters' degrees from the University of Connecticut. He was an insurance broker and worked in insurance his entire career. He retired from Hoggs-Robinson in Pennsylvania. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. Memorial information: At the request of the family, there will be no formal funeral service. Donations to the charity of one's choice.
• Jonathan R. Hughes, 28, formerly of Wilmington. Died Jan. 15 from injuries sustained in a pedestrian-motor vehicle accident in Worcester, Mass. Son of Barbara (Schaub) Hughes and the late James Richard Hughes. Brother of Jennifer Phillips, and her husband Johnathan. He was born in Greenfield, Mass., and grew up in Wilmington, graduating from Twin Valley High School in 2003. He continued his education by attending community college in Massachusetts. He had briefly been a theatre manager in West Dover and Brattleboro and, for the past several years, he was the tour manager for the band Madball. He traveled extensively with the band throughout Canada, Europe, Japan and the United States. He was passionate about music and especially loved hard core music. He was proud of his tattoos, loved spending time in the outdoors, hiking, and carpentry which he learned from his father. He was devoted to his family, his dog Tank, and his numerous friends throughout the Northeast, whom he considered family. His motto was “family first.” Memorial information: A celebration of his life was held Jan. 21 at The Old Red Mill Inn in Wilmington.
• Beatrice M. “Bea” Kenney, 92, a former resident of Attleboro, Mass. Died Jan. 10 at Vernon Green Nursing Home. Wife of the late Edward Kenney for 58 years. Mother of John E. Kenney of Bridgewater, Mass., and Dianne Diemer of Brattleboro. Born in Taunton, Mass., the daughter of Frank and Madeline (Hagar) Harwood, she was raised and educated in Taunton, graduating from Taunton High School. She was a faithful and devoted homemaker whose life centered around her family. She had made her home for several years at her daughter and son-in-law's on Carriage Hill Road in Brattleboro. For more than 20 years with her husband, she resided in Floral City, Fla. She enjoyed travel, crossword puzzles and reading. She was also an excellent cook, and was known for her delicious dishes. Memorial information: Graveside services will be conducted in the springtime in Mayflower Hill Cemetery in Taunton, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband. • Alice L. (Bingham) Kerr, 91, of Bellows Falls. Died Jan. 12 at her granddaughter's home in Claremont, N.H. Mother of Carrol “Soupy” Simonds and his wife, Dee, of Bellows Falls; and the late Earl “Squirt” Simonds and Earline French. Stepmother of Edward Kerr Jr. and his wife, Jean, of Contoocook, N.H., and stepdaughter Margery Allen of New York. Twin sister of the late Carol Bingham Jr. Predeceased by four other siblings. Born in Bellows Falls, the daughter of the late Carrol G. Bingham and Eva (Fuller) Bingham. In her younger years, Alice worked for Vermont Academy and Schroeder Nursing Home, both in Saxtons River. In 1985, she retired from Whitney Blake Company of Bellows Falls. She continued to be very active in the Rockingham Fire Department's Ladies Auxiliary, enjoyed many trips with the Bellows Falls Senior Center, and loved to dance 'til the cows came home. But more than anything, she was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren, and she kept the gang at River View Apartments in Bellows Falls, where she lived for the past 26 years, on their toes and put smiles on their faces with all the stories, jokes, and good times they all shared. • John L. Lawrence, 59, of Fredericksburg, Va. Died Jan. 11 at his home. Survived by his former wife Denise Sledge, longtime partner Greg Manning, daughters Stacie Stewart and Dawn Judd, and brothers Wendel and Floyd Ellis. Born in Putney, the son of the late Cecil and Winnie Lawrence, he was a wonderful, kind, and giving man. His smile, laughter and love of life will be missed by everyone he touched. Memorial information: A reception will be held at the Westminster Fire Department on Saturday, Jan. 26, from 1-4 p.m. Friends and family are encouraged to attend.
• Craig Roy Schopman, 40, of West Brattleboro. Died Jan. 10 at his home. Father of Elias and Brady Schopman. Brother of Katherine “Kate” Bronner and her husband, Robert, of Warwick, R.I. Born in Brattleboro, the son of Roy and Martha (Robertson) Schopman, he was a graduate of Brattleboro Union High School, Class of 1991. He went on to attend Vermont Technical College. He had been employed as a selector for C&S Wholesale Grocers in Brattleboro, joining the company in 1993. He cherished time spent with his two sons, and enjoyed off-road four-wheeling with his Jeep and time spent in the outdoors. He was an avid Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan. He leaves a large host of close friends. Memorial information: No formal funeral services are scheduled. Donations may be made to a special educational trust fund established to benefit his two sons. • Kora Skeele of Putney has been placed on the Dean's List of Cornell University's College of Arts and Sciences for excellence in scholarship for the fall 2012 semester.
• Holly Griswold, a Veterinary Science major from West Halifax, was named to the Becker College Dean's List for fall 2012.
• Jonah Stoller of Brattleboro, a sophomore, has been named to Beloit College's Dean's List for the 2012 fall semester.
• Ryan Gagnon-Burch of Putney, a sophomore in the School of Art and Design, and Ryan Thomas of Brattleboro, a senior in the College of Liberal Arts/Sciences, were both named to Alfred University's fall 2012 Dean's List.
• Alexander C. Breau, a sophomore majoring in computer science from Vernon, has been named to the President's List at Western New England University for the fall semester of 2012. Students are named to the President's List for achieving a semester grade point average of 3.80 or higher.
Transitions
• Elisabeth Gardner, NCC, has joined Rachel Zamore, LMFT in practice at InnerWell Integrative Counseling Services in Brattleboro. InnerWell provides adult psychotherapy and couples counseling, specializing in relationship issues (for couples and individuals), and in the mind-body treatment of anxiety, trauma, and depression.
• Lynn Madsen, MD, has joined practice with Edward Mulhern, MD, in Townshend. Dr. Madsen blends family practice with a holistic approach called anthroposophic medicine - an extension of conventional medicine that fosters spiritual and emotional healing along with tending to the physical body. She is board certified in family practice.

• Bonnyvale Environmental Education Center of West Brattleboro is the recipient of a generous grant from the Proctor & Gamble Fund of The Greater Cincinnati Foundation. These funds will go to supporting their “Environmental Education for All” programs. These programs strive to expand their reach to a greater diversity of participants in the community through environmental education and conservation initiatives.
