GUILFORD — Thank you for Robert Litchfield's recent article [“Horses make big impression on 'littles,'” Dec. 19] about the exciting new collaboration between Southern Vermont Therapeutic Riding Center (SVTRC) in Newfane and Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Please accept a small correction to that article: For information about SVTRC, the correct web address is sovtrc.org.
While SVTRC is indeed located on the grounds of Winchester Stables - whose owners initiated the program in 2010 and who have been notably supportive - it is now a standalone 501(c)(3) not-for-profit. SVTRC is responsible for its five program horses' board and rent for use of Winchester's facilities.
It is not only local Little-Big partners who benefit from SVTRC's program. People of all ages with physical, mental, or cognitive disabilities can make remarkable progress when equine-assisted activities and therapies (EAAT) are a part of their treatment plan.
Also, for teams in the corporate workplace - and any individual seeking better leadership, team building, or communication skills - working with horses provides a powerful new paradigm.
I cannot overstate the professionalism, integrity, and talent that program director Lorna Young brings to the EAAT programs at SVTRC. Her dedication and ability to connect with both horse and rider is truly transformative.
