Newfane Heritage Festival features crafts, food, and fun

NEWFANE — The 42nd Newfane Heritage Festival will be held on Columbus Day weekend, Oct. 6 and 7, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine, on the historic Newfane Common.

The Newfane Heritage Festival is one of Vermont's longest running festivals and has been growing each year, with more than 90 exhibitors offering unique handcrafted articles.

“One's senses will delight in the sights, smells, and sounds on the historic Common,” organizers write. “Take time to visit as many booths as possible, and be rewarded with such things as photography, pottery, jewelry, furniture, clothing, candles, soaps, art work, toys, textiles, iron and wood work, and more.”

The Church Deli will be serving soups, pizzas, baked potatoes with toppings, and other foods. The Outdoor Food Booth serves hot dogs, hamburgers, chili, and sandwiches. Apple pie - baked by local hands from a time-honored recipe - will be available, as will warm apple crisp topped with ice cream.

Winners of the Super Raffle walk away with quilts, gift certificates, books, and other unique pieces. Attic treasures, collectibles, used books, and toys are available in the Flea Tent.

Other activities include a children's corner, live music, a farmers' market, popcorn, caramel apples, and freshly made donuts.

The festival is organized by the Newfane Congregational Church and its many volunteers to help continue the long tradition of outreach and ministry for local communities and beyond.

The church is constructing an addition to its historic building to improve accessibility and safety, and to better serve the congregation and community.
