BRATTLEBORO — Live entertainment, health and wellness activities, fitness demonstrations, dance, music, prizes, and giveaways will be featured at the Wellness in Windham Health Festival on Saturday, Sept. 22, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the front lawn of the Brattleboro Retreat.
This first-ever event is free and open to the public and is sponsored by Brattleboro Memorial Hospital, the Brattleboro Retreat, and Grace Cottage Hospital.
The festival includes demonstrations of Zumba, hula-hooping, Tai Chi, yoga, chair exercises, Sukyo Mahikari, and the Alexander Technique.
Visitors can tackle the climbing wall, or watch the Keene Cheshiremen Barbershop Chorus, Green Street Geckos, Happy Hearts Jump Rope Team, and Sahibat Belly Dancers perform. Cooking demonstrations will be provided by the Brattleboro Food Co-op, and visitors can buy a healthy lunch prepared by Sodexo Foods.
Free health screenings will also be available, and many area health organizations will be participating, so that fairgoers can learn about many of the services available locally for physical and mental health and wellness for all ages, including eldercare, fitness, safe driving, and programs for area teens.
The day begins with a free Fun Trail Run on the Retreat Trails; registration for the informal run (participants have the option of being timed) is from 9:15 to 9:45 a.m. on the front lawn of the Brattleboro Retreat, and the run, which is just over 1.5 miles, starts at 10 a.m.
