NEWFANE — The Friends of the Moore Free Library Book Sale will be held Saturday, Sept. 29, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, Sept. 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in Union Hall on Route 30.
An annual Newfane tradition, this book sale is a major fundraiser for the library. It offers some 5,000 books on every subject from fiction and nonfiction, to biography, children's books, and picture books. All are priced to sell.
In the latest issue of Vermont Life magazine, local author Castle Freeman Jr. showcases the book sale.
Targ and John Spicer started the sale two decades ago, and they continue to volunteer along with 30 other helpers. “It's been going for 20 years,” said Targ Spicer. “John makes the posters and flyers and both of us have added seed money for the cash box.”
The Moore Free Library is truly a free library. No state or local taxes are collected and no fines are charged. The library is open to all without charge, and exists through donations of money, time and materials from volunteers, citizens, and borrowers.
