BELLOWS FALLS — Parks Place of Bellows Falls, a community resource center dedicated to connecting people to the information, education, and resources critical to strengthening lives, is launching a campaign to raise just under $12,000 to replace its 40 windows, most of which date to when the house was built in the early 1900s.
“Given the agency's model and mission, maintenance of the building remains of critical importance to keeping the providers who utilize the space satisfied and in the community to serve persons in need of human services,” said director Barbara Ternes.
After months of discussion, the Parks Place facilities committee and board of directors decided to move forward with the replacement of all 40 windows in the building, which earn a failing grade on multiple fronts. A number of windows cannot be opened because they remain stuck or because they cannot be fitted with appropriate screens. And, each fall volunteers spend significant time attaching plastic to the windows throughout the building to keep out drafts.
To date, 10 people have either donated or pledged their support towards this effort. The cost to sponsor one window is $275. Contributors will be recognized with a decorative brass plate displaying their family name. The campaign is also a great way to make a memorial gift.
Parks Place was founded by a group of concerned teachers, parents and community members in 1992 to address the health, education and human service needs of families, particularly children, of the Greater Falls Region. Parks Place opened its doors in June 1995 and became an independent, nonprofit organization in 1998. Last year, more than 3,300 individuals utilized 35 programs, which include Springfield Supported Housing, Vermont Adult Learning, Alcoholics Anonymous, Youth Services, and Lead Safe and Healthy Homes.
