Jonathan Edwards shares the bill with Lisa McCormick, The Stockwell Brothers at Next Stage

PUTNEY — Next Stage Arts Project and Twilight Music will present veteran folk/rock icon Jonathan Edwards plus singer/songwriter Lisa McCormick and the newgrass trio, The Stockwell Brothers, at Next Stage on Friday, July 20, at 7:30 p.m.

In addition to opening the concert with sets of their own, McCormick and The Stockwell Brothers, who have each toured with Edwards in the past, will join him on stage again for part of the concert.

Since 1971, Edwards has released 15 albums, collaborated with the likes of Emmylou Harris, Cheryl Wheeler, and The Seldom Scene, launched his own record label, and shared the stage with everyone from The Allman Brothers Band and B.B. King to Jesse Colin Young and Don McLean.

He has also scored and starred in films and videos, including a pair of 13-week series produced by PBS, “Cruising America's Waterways,” and “That's What Our Life Is,” a documentary of his life and career.

Edwards is well known for his 1971 anthem “Sunshine,” a proclamation of protest and independence that resonated with thousands of young people, made its way to the top five on the national charts, and earned the artist a gold record.

Almost 40 years later, the song and Edwards' tenor voice continue to be embraced by faithful followers and new fans alike.

McCormick is a mainstay of the indie singer/songwriter underground, where her strong, clear voice and smart, sexy lyrics have earned her a loyal following. Her signature vocals and acoustic guitar arrangements are spiced with exotic World Music flavors, including Latin, Middle Eastern, reggae, and tango.

Featuring 2005 Merlefest bluegrass banjo contest winner Bruce Stockwell, newgrass and contemporary folk trio, The Stockwell Brothers, has performed alongside artists from Bill Monroe to Mary Chapin Carpenter to Asleep At The Wheel. The group has recorded with Mike Auldridge and Phil Rosenthal of the bluegrass supergroup The Seldom Scene and toured throughout the United States and in Canada and Europe.

Next Stage is located in the former United Church at 15 Kimball Hill in downtown Putney. Tickets for this concert are $22, or $20 for students and seniors. JD McCliment's Pub will provide a beer and wine cash bar at the concert.
