Popolo celebrates grand opening with five local bands in concert

BELLOWS FALLS — Popolo, a new restaurant in the former Windham Hotel, will hold its grand opening on Saturday, June 30 with an all-day party that features five free bands and free hors d'oeuvres.

At 3 p.m. on the restaurant's deck overlooking the river valley, the event kicks off with bluegrass by the Stockwell Brothers.

At 5 p.m., Travis Adams performs lounge standards and his original work in the lobby.

At 7 p.m., in the lobby, Blue Dune offers a dinner-hour set of what band members call “tranceabilly,” a hybrid genre of ambient swing rocking beats.

Members of Boston's Surf's Up, Spicoli take the stage at 8 p.m., when they'll ride their brand of surf rock, from groovy beach-side Ventures-style guitar poetry to a powerful wave of sound.

At 9:30 in the Ballroom, the Bob Kendall Band will perform original American-infused rock music.

The restaurant will feature “Italian-inspired, farm-to-table cuisine,” according to its website.

Reservations are recommended for the dining room and can be arranged (while room exists) by calling 802-460-7676. There's more than one cash bar.

Food will begin with lunch and be served from 5 to 10 p.m. Dinner starts at 5 p.m. on the deck and in the dining room. Members of community radio station WOOL will get 10 percent off their food when they show their card.

If it rains, the show will be moved inside.
