Thanks from Dummerston library friends

DUMMERSTON — Lydia's Friends extend sincere thanks to the many people who made the June 19 Geranium Festival and Book Sale such a resounding success.

The festival supports Dummerston's own Lydia Taft Pratt Library and the many services it provides the community.

Community libraries are rich resources for the rural areas of Vermont. The Lydia Pratt Taft Library, founded in the 1920s, houses nearly 4,000 volumes, including many historical records. It facilitates an active interlibrary loan program, offers free wifi to the community, hosts reading groups, and delivers books to shut-ins, among other activities.

The library also has a dedicated group of volunteers who support the part-time librarian. They keep the library open additional hours.

Geraniums for sale at the festival were donated by Walker Farm. A wide variety of books for young and old for the sale were donated by people from around Windham County. The festival also had refreshments for sale, with cheese donated by Grafton Village Cheese Co. and water from Pepsi of Brattleboro.

In addition, music was provided by Carol and Paul Adkins. AChildren enjoyed crafts and games.

A silent auction for a variety of items and service was a big success. We are most grateful to the community businesses for their donations: The Marina, The Tavern Restaurant, Everyone's Books, Paws and Claws, Hannaford, Sidehill Farms, Dwight Miller Orchards, the Vermont Country Store, Faith Evans of Dream Quilts, Scott Farm, and piano tuner John Dwyer.

We also thank everyone who came to support the festival, including the West Dummerston Community Center.

I apologize if I have neglected to mention everyone.
