PUTNEY — The Putney Community Theater will be holding an open casting call on Sunday, June 10, at the Putney Community Center from 3 to 5 p.m., for the theater company's inaugural season's play, “Food, Putney.”
The Putney Community Center is located at 10 Christian Square.
The Putney Community Theater is a new theater project dedicated to giving people with little or no acting or performing experience the opportunity to tell their stories around a particular theme.
This year's theme is food, and the play will consist of stories relating to food written and performed by the cast members.
As part of the collaborative process of turning the range of stories into a theater presentation, the Putney Community Theater will teach a variety of theater, stagecraft, performing, writing, and public presentation skills to the cast members, as well as draw upon the skills and talents that each member brings to the play.
Rehearsals will be held Sunday afternoons through the summer, from 3 to 5 p.m., at the Putney Community Center, beginning on June 17. Performances for “Food, Putney” will begin on Thursday, Aug. 30, at 7 pm, and run through Saturday, Sept. 8.
Participation in the Putney Community Theater is free and open to anyone over the age of 18 in the wider Putney area. Though admission to the performances is free, goodwill donations are strongly encouraged, and people are asked to bring a donation of food for the Putney Food Shelf on Opening Night.
The Putney Community Theater is a project of the Transition Putney Community Artists Working Group, and is supported by the Putney Community Center.
