Green Up Day 2012 will take place on Saturday, May 5.
Vermont was the first state to designate a special day for cleaning up the entire state, 41 years ago in 1970. Anyone can help. Residents can arrange a group or just show up at one of the Windham County locations below. There they can pick up bags, check in, and have a complimentary coffee and doughnut, or even breakfast. Participants are encouraged to wear bright colors, sturdy shoes, and gloves.

Dover: Green Up is May 12. Lori O'Hern, 802-348-7810. Meet at Dover School at 9 a.m. for bags and road assignments. Lunch for volunteers at 11:30 at the school, with a trash sculpture contest after lunch. The garden club will also have a plant sale.
Dummerston: Mark Brown, 802-258-0382. Meet at 9 a.m. at Dummerston Congregation Church in Dummerston Center. Bring picnic lunch to eat on the Common.
Guilford: Elly Majonen, 802-257-4067, Broad Brook Grange, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., bags available. Full bags may be brought to Grange until 5 p.m. Separate tires and metal from garbage. Refreshments all day. Treats to share are welcome.
Grafton: Bob Wright, 802-843-2386, meet at 9 a.m., Grafton Town Shed. Ice cream at noon for workers returning with full bags. Dumpster at Town Garage all day Monday, May 7.
