The Windham County Sheriff's Department, working with the federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and in coordination with local law enforcement agencies throughout Windham County, will offer a Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 28, from 10 am to 2 pm.
During Drug Take Back Day, area residents can properly dispose of unneeded, expired, or unwanted prescription pills, tablets, and capsules in a confidential, safe, and secure way. No questions are asked, no fee is charges, and no personal information is required of the people dropping off at the collection sites.
Members of the local prevention coalitions will be present at the collection locations to provide additional resources.
Law enforcement agencies have said that the Drug Take Back days are instrumental in reducing the amount of prescription narcotics on the street and preventing their availability for abuse and illegal use.
“We are seeing a continuing need for these Take Back Days,” said Windham County Sheriff Keith Clark.
“In Vermont in 2011, there were more deaths attributed to illegal drug use than were attributed to motor vehicle crashes,” he added. “The law enforcement agencies involved in supporting these events all believe that Take Back Days save lives.”
