Sugar on Snow supper served in Grafton

GRAFTON - A traditional Sugar on Snow supper will be served on Saturday, March 10 in Grafton at the chapel on Main Street (next to the Brick Church).

Seatings are at 5 and 7 p.m. The menu includes ham, baked beans, scalloped potatoes, rolls, coleslaw, doughnuts, pickles and sugar on snow. The cost is $10 for adults, $5 children aged 5-12, with a family rate of $25. Proceeds will benefit Grafton Cares, the Grafton Church and the Grafton Grange.

RFPL presents Tasha Tudor programs on March 10

BELLOWS FALLS - On Saturday, March 10, from noon to 1:30 p.m., the Rockingham Free Public Library (RFPL) will present an afternoon celebrating renowned author and children's book illustrator Tasha Tudor.

Presenters from the Tasha Tudor Museum will share stories and recount personal experiences with the late author and illustrator. The PBS documentary Take Joy: The Magical World of Tasha Tudor will be shown, followed by a short discussion.

There will be a display of selected books and objects of Tudor's, along with items available for purchase.

Tasha Tudor's story Pumpkin Moonshine, published in 1938, began her long and illustrious career. She wrote some 100 books and received numerous awards and honors, including Caldecott Awards and the Regina Medal, and she created thousands of original works of art that can be found in museums, libraries, and hundreds of private collections around the world.

Her books and her unique 19th century lifestyle inspired, touched and charmed children and adults for 70 years, and she remains one of America's most beloved children's authors.

Corned beef and cabbage supper presented in BF

BELLOWS FALLS - The United Church of Bellows Falls on School Street will serve a traditional New England boiled dinner on March 10 from 5 to 6:30 p.m..

On the menu: corned beef, cabbage, carrots, potatoes, rolls, pickles, beverages, cake. The cost is $10 for adults, $6 for ages 5-12; the meal is free for those younger than 5. Takeout is available.

Sugar on Snow Supper served in West Brattleboro

WEST BRATTLEBORO - The First Congregational Church's records show that the church has organized Sugar on Snow suppers for at least 60 years.

This year's will be held at the church, at 880 Western Ave., on Saturday, March 10, with sittings at 5 p.m. and 6:15 p.m.

The menu includes ham, baked beans, cole slaw, potato salad, deviled eggs, rolls, sugar on snow, homemade doughnuts, pickles, and coffee, tea, or milk.

The prices are $10 for adults; $5 for children ages 5-12; and $2 for those 4 and younger.

All proceeds benefit the church, which supports several programs that serve the community.

Grafton Cornet Band hosts open rehearsal

GRAFTON - The Grafton Cornet Band welcomes band players near and far to the first pre-season rehearsal on Sunday, March 11, from 2 to 4 p.m.

This traditional community band keeps its historic, 145-year-old name, although those who play all instruments are welcome, not just cornet players.

There are no dues, auditions, or minimum time required - just a desire to make music and continue the grand tradition of music in Grafton.

BF Woman's Club to meet

BELLOWS FALLS - The Bellows Falls Woman's Club will meet at the United Church on School Street on Tuesday, March 13, beginning at 1:30 p.m.

The meeting presentation will feature the Fall Mountain Regional High School's horticultural program.

Club members are asked to sign up for the annual club-sponsored art show and luncheon at Bellows Falls Union High School, scheduled for April 10.

There is a suggested donation of $5, payable at the March meeting.

Brattleboro Farmers' Market seeks new members

BRATTLEBORO - Interested in selling at the Brattleboro Farmers' Market this season? The market will host a meeting for prospective new members on Wednesday, March 14, 7 p.m., at the Dummerston Congregational Church in Dummerston Center.

Anyone who produces agricultural or prepared food products in Windham or Cheshire counties, or craft products in Windham, Cheshire, and surrounding counties (new for this season) is invited to learn more about the market's membership rules, jury process, and selling experience.

Attendance at this meeting is highly encouraged for new applicants.

Community Conversations meeting set for March 14

BRATTLEBORO - Brattleboro's Community Conversations is now into its third year, and sponsored by Transition Town Brattleboro. This month's meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 14, in the basement of the Gibson-Aiken Center at 207 Main St.

There will be time to socialize at 6:15 p.m., with the structured conversation beginning at 6:45 and ending at 8:45. No food is allowed at this venue.

“Come celebrate spring with an evening of surprising, thought-provoking, and possibly outrageous ideas provided by participants,” organizers write. “New people are always welcome, and all voices will be heard.”

Learn about Vitamin D at Grace Cottage Hospital

TOWNSHEND - Grace Cottage Hospital will provide a free presentation about Vitamin D on Thursday, March 15, from 5 to 6:30 p.m., in the hospital's Community Wellness Center, 133 Grafton Rd. (Route 35).

Everyone needs Vitamin D to keep bones and muscles strong, including the heart. In addition, Vitamin D is touted to help with a wide variety of health issues.

What is fact and what is fiction? How can you make sure that you are getting enough Vitamin D? Learn more at this informational session from members of the Grace Cottage Hospital pharmacy staff and interns.

Kindergarten screening scheduled in Dummerston

DUMMERSTON - Kindergarten screening will take place on Tuesday, March 20.

Marlboro Cares announces new Senior Wellness Clinic

MARLBORO - Marlboro Cares, in cooperation with Marlboro College, plans a monthly Senior Wellness Clinic for residents that will offer free services, including blood-pressure checks, medication reviews, toenail clipping, ear cleaning, answers to diabetes and glucometer questions, and other non-emergency nursing services.

Volunteer nurses, led by Susan Kunhardt, will neither diagnose nor order treatment, but they can consult with clients and give advice.

The Health Clinic will take place the second Saturday of each month beginning April 14. It will be held at the Marlboro College Health Center from 9 to 11 a.m. by appointment only.

For an appointment or more information, call Marlboro Cares at 802-258-3030 by the Wednesday before the clinic. Someone will return your call within 24 hours. Rides to the Health Center are available upon request from Marlboro Cares volunteers.

Dates for other Senior Wellness Clinics this year are May 12, June 9, July 14, Aug. 11, Sept. 8, Oct. 13, Nov. 10, and Dec. 8.

Worn Again Thrift Shop needs clothing donations

SAXTONS RIVER - The Worn Again Thrift Shop on Main Street is in need of donations of good summer and everyday clothing, shoes, boots, and all types of wearing apparel.

They are currently preparing for the coming warm weather and need clothing of all types for infants, children, and adults.

The shop also needs sheets, blankets, pillowcases, towels and washcloths, costume jewelry, small kitchen appliances, and knick knacks.

Shop hours are Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Donations (clean and in good condition) may be dropped off during those hours.

The shop is sponsored by the West River Missions and run by volunteers from local Catholic churches - Our Lady of Mercy in Putney, Our Lady of the Valley in Townshend, and Chapel of the Snows on Stratton Mountain.
