NEWFANE — In on the front page of The Commons [“Can law enforcement coexist with education in schools? Educators have mixed feelings about school resource officers,” Feb. 15], a quote made by me was taken out of context and made to sound like an attack on Leland and Gray Union High School.
I don't like it at all, because the teachers are as vigilant as they could possibly be in their efforts to prevent drugs in the school. I feel that our teachers are very capable and knowledgeable about what goes on here, and unless we search every student's bags, pockets, lockers, and everywhere else a person could ever fit drugs, and do so every day, there is going to be a drug problem; in fact, we have much less of a drug problem than larger schools have.
I can't really be angry with The Commons because the paper is just trying to get more readers; that would be like being angry with Coca-Cola for using mascots to sell products.
However, I am angry and disappointed that you made my statement sound like an attack on the school. I was trying to say that a drug problem exists, but it is so small that the teachers would hardly notice it.
Please help me by correcting the image of the faculty here at my school in your paper.
