BRATTLEBORO — The Brattleboro Recreation & Parks Department will offer the following programs in the coming weeks. For more information, or to sign up, contact the department at 802-254-5808, or visit www.brattleboro.org for a complete listing of events.

Adult recreational volleyball

• An adult coed recreational volleyball program will be held at Academy School in West Brattleboro. The program will run on Wednesdays from 6-8 p.m. for eight weeks beginning Feb. 27 and run through April 30.

The cost of the program is $20 for Brattleboro residents, $40 for non-residents. You may join at any point, and the fee will be pro-rated.

This program is designed for adults who want to play or learn volleyball skills in a non-competitive environment. It is designed for beginner to intermediate players with a basic knowledge and skills. This program is great for a player who wants to get exercise and have a lot of fun. Sneakers must be worn in order to participate.

Zumba

• Another session of Zumba classes begins Feb. 28. Zumba is the Latin dance fitness program that's getting the whole world moving to international rhythms and Latin beats. This workout is suitable for all levels and offers cardiovascular and body-shaping benefits while strengthening your core and increasing your balance. Jennifer Moyse of Motion Works will instruct these fun classes.

The program is an 8-week program that will be offered both Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:15-6:15 p.m. at the Gibson-Aiken Center, 207 Main St. The cost of the program is $75 for residents and $95 for non-residents for one class per week, or $125 for residents and $145 for non-residents for both classes each week. Drop-ins are $15 per class.

Coed adult indoor soccer

• A coed adult indoor soccer program will offered on Tuesday nights from 7-9 p.m. through April 17. Participants of all abilities ages 18 and up are welcome. Pick-up games will take place in the Gibson-Aiken Center main gym. There will be no teams or officials. Indoor balls and pennies will be provided.

The cost for the nine-week session is $20 for residents and $40 for non-residents. Shin guards and clean appropriate footwear are required.

Youth indoor soccer

• A coed youth indoor soccer program will offered from March 12 through April 17. Children will broken into small coed teams for pick-up games in the Gibson-Aiken Center's second floor gym. Shin guards and clean appropriate footwear are required.

The cost for the eight-week session is $10 for residents and $25 for non-residents. Times are as follows: Grades K-2, Mondays, 5-6 p.m.; Grades 3-4, Tuesdays, 5-6 p.m.; and Grades 5-6, Wednesdays, 5-6 p.m.

Fitness classes

• A new session of fitness classes, led by Cyndy Gray, will be offered four days a week from 12:10 to 1:10 p.m. in the Gymnastics Room at the Gibson-Aiken Center.

Yoga will be offered on Mondays and Wednesdays, starting March 5. This is a class based on traditional yoga posture and breath-work designed in a flowing sequence with emphasis on a balanced approach.

Pilates will be offered on Tuesdays, beginning on March 6. This class is based on the traditional Pilates exercises to strengthen and stabilize the core - the abdominals, hip, back, and shoulder joints.

A combination yoga/pilates class will be held on Fridays and begins March 9.

Fees for the yoga and pilates classes are based on an eight-week session and will be as follows: $50 for one class, $60 for two classes, $75 for three classes, $90 for four classes. Add $20 for non-residents. Sessions will be pro-rated if they are under eight-weeks.

Anyone over 18 years old is welcome, and the instructor can accommodate special needs. One may sign up at any point and attend any or all classes. The classes can be modified to fit all levels of ability.

Badminton

• Another session of adult badminton begins on March 8 in the Gibson-Aiken Center gymnasium and continues through April 26. Pick-up games for those 18 and older will be played Thursdays from 8-10 p.m. All levels and abilities are welcome and participants must wear sneakers.

Chess Club

• Looking for a chess partner? Stop by the Chess Club, which meets Wednesdays from 6-9 p.m. through April 18 in the Senior Center in the basement of the Gibson-Aiken Center.

Games are open to players age 16 and up, and the fee is $1 per person per night. Eric Strickland is the instructor.
