BRATTLEBORO — Regional delicacies and wines, cultural excursions, and plenty of time for art-making made the River Gallery School's first trip to Italy last spring such a success that the art school is planning another, from April 7 through 14.
Artists and non-artists alike will enjoy the hill towns, the architecture, the countryside, the museums, and the markets of Tuscany and Umbria.
Tour guide Cicely Carroll will lead the group in painting, drawing, and photographing the rolling hills around Pienza and Montepulcino, an area designated a UNESCO Cultural Landscape Site.
Travelers will spend seven nights in an agriturismo south of Siena, among the most beautiful cities in Italy. From this farm/villa base, they will set out for cultural and painting excursions. A cooking lesson, focusing on regional specialties, will also be available.
Transportation in Italy and excursion planning is provided. Artists are encouraged to bring journals, sketch pads, pastels and watercolor supplies, but since activities are optional, non-artists are welcome as well. Individuals can also plan side trips to Florence or Rome.
An informational meeting for anyone interested in learning more will be held at RGS on Thursday, Jan. 26, from 6 to 7 p.m., or a PowerPoint slideshow presentation can be emailed.
The school is located on the second floor of 32 Main St. Call 802-257-1577, email [email protected], or visit rivergalleeryschool.org for more information.
