BRATTLEBORO — Judy Greenberg, a local licensed psychologist and trauma expert, will give a free presentation about psychological trauma, including discussion on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR).
The talk, on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 7:30 p.m., will cover what is meant by trauma, the impact that it has on our brains, and the behaviors and feelings typically associated with it.
After a trauma or loss, typical symptoms may either begin or increase: thinking about it too much, avoiding reminders of the event, overreacting to things, becoming jumpy or easily startled, becoming angry or displaying a quick temper, having trouble concentrating or staying focused, avoiding people or situations, being fearful or worried, or experiencing increased stress or problems.
The talk will offer information about PTSD and how people can recover from it and other trauma-related problems. Greenberg will also discuss EMDR, which she describes as a very effective trauma treatment. There will be time for questions and answers.
Greenberg has been in private practice in Brattleboro since 1986, and specializes in trauma and work with adolescents and adults. She also works at World Learning's School for International Training Graduate Institute and Study Abroad Programs as a mental health counselor.
The talk will take place in the meeting room at Brattleboro Savings & Loan on Main Street, in the basement of the bank.
