BRATTLEBORO — In celebration of Brattleboro Union High School's appreciation of the arts and those who create it, an Art Recognition Event will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 16, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the multi-purpose room.
This event will be an occasion for the BUHS art community to come together and enjoy a festive evening of creativity and view one another's art. It will provide an opportunity to acknowledge BUHS artists, past and present, and their mentors. It will also provide artists with an opportunity to sell their art.
Current students, alumni, employees, and family members are encouraged to submit art (one piece per person) by Nov. 4.
Art should be clearly labeled with the artist's name and telephone number, title and medium of art, and cost, if it is for sale. Submissions should be brought to Kathleen Sweeney's art room (room 124).
Sweeney said that the event “will not only be an exhibit of creative works, but also an opportunity for artists of all ages and their families to sit down and make a piece of art, judge [the works], and then eat artfully made cakes, enjoy some music, and watch art-making demonstrations.”
Demonstrations include use of a ceramics wheel, machine embroidery, spinning, and tole painting.
Attendees can also partake in an “art trading card” activity and design paper feathers for decorating a huge wire chicken.
Anyone interested in baking and decorating a cake for the event should contact Sandy Cormier by email, or call her at BUHS: 802-451-3478.
Prizes for the best cakes, based on “most creative and original,” “most difficult and complex,” and “best taste.”
Additional information about the event can be obtained from Sweeney, who can be reached by phone (802-451-3478) or by email.
