Artists celebrate Guilford’s 250th

Visual arts, crafts on exhibit, and to benefit celebration

GUILFORD — A hundred or more “Scenes of Guilford” will be on display on Oct. 21-23 as part of the town's year-long 250th anniversary celebration.

This special exhibit of works by more than two dozen area artists will be mounted in the gymnasium of Guilford Central School, 374 School Rd.

The art show will feature landscapes and other views of the town by both Guilford-based artists and those from nearby towns who have been inspired by the countryside in town. A number of works will be on loan from local art collectors.

“This show will celebrate the impact of the Guilford landscape on residents and visitors alike,” said show curator Rick Zamore. “The farms, fields and mowings, houses, hills, and forests that we see every day take on new meaning when we see them through the creations of artists and photographers.

“This is a big show, with paintings, drawings, prints, photographs new and historical, and some Guilford memorabilia,” Zamore continued. “It truly has something for everyone, young and old.”

In addition to fine arts, the show will include the work of a number of Guilford craftspeople and artisans, in genres that include jewelry, woodworking, ceramics, bookbinding, and weaving.

All of the Guilford-made items will be for sale, as well as some of the art and photographs, with a portion of the proceeds to benefit the town's 250th celebration.

Show hours are Friday, Oct. 21, 10 a.m. - 7 p.m.; Saturday, the 22nd, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and a short closing session on Sunday, the 23rd, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

An opening reception, with refreshments, for the exhibitors and the public is scheduled for Friday from 5 to 7 p.m.

School Road is four miles up Guilford Center Road from the Guilford Country Store on Route 5. Admission is free.

Also on sale, together in one place, possibly for the last time, will be the remaining inventory of Guilford 250th memorabilia, now at closeout prices.
