The Brattleboro Colonels, the two-time state softball champions, were well represented when the Marble Valley League released its All-Star team selections last week.
Kayla Wood, Taylor Kerylow and Ariel Kane were all named to the All-MVL A Division softball team, while Kelly Markol was named the A Division's Coach of the Year.
Wood, a sophomore pitcher, gave up on 65 hits this season for the 19-1 Colonels, with 175 strikeouts and 36 walks. Kerylow, a senior third baseman, was the Colonels' leading hitter with 33 hits and a .442 batting average. Kane, also a senior, played center field and was the leadoff hitter for the Colonels, whose only loss came against Hoosick Falls, N.Y., in the Mount Anthony Tournament.
Other All-MVL softball selections included catcher Megan LeBeau of Bellows Falls to the B Division team, and Twin Valley catcher Bryer-lyn Crawford, and Leland & Gray catcher Aly Marcucci and pitcher Nicole Sherman to the C Division team.
For the All-MVL baseball teams, Brattleboro pitcher Sawyer Olson made the A Division team, while center fielder/pitcher Matt Marchica, catcher Brendan Hackett, and shortstop/pitcher Cooper Long represent Bellows Falls on the B Division team. BF coach Bob Lockerby was the B Division's Coach of the Year.
In the C Division, Twin Valley's George Molner and Tony Bernard, and Leland & Gray's Colin Nystrom, Brendan Reilly, and Drew Barnum were all selected.
Twin State lacrosse
• Brattleboro midfielder Travis Elliott-Knaggs played in Saturday's Twin State All-Star Lacrosse Game in Hanover, N.H. The Vermont boys rallied, but could not overtake New Hampshire in 13-10 loss.
The game featured the top high school seniors from Vermont and New Hampshire. Teammate Sam Finnerty was selected as an alternate to the Vermont boys' squad.
No Brattleboro players were selected to the Vermont girls' squad.
Elliott-Knaggs and Finnerty, the Colonels' top scorers this season, are both headed to Elon University in Elon, N.C., this fall.

• Brattleboro Post 5 won its first game of the season last Tuesday with an 8-4 road victory over Windsor/Woodstock. Brattleboro had 11 total hits, as Ross Meyer drove in 4 runs on 3 of those hits. Bryce Bandish, Evan Parro, and Brandon Reilly all went 2-for-4. Tommy Heydinger was the winning pitcher. He struck out 9, walked 4, and gave up 7 hits.
The two teams faced off again at Tenney Field on Sunday, and Post 5 won again, 13-2. Heydinger was again the winning pitcher, throwing a complete-game three-hitter with 9 strikeouts. Brattleboro had 14 hits in the game as Meyer, Reilly, Gerard Roberge, Soren Pelz-Walsh, Eli Pell, and Jamie Martell all had 2 hits each.
• Bellows Falls Post 37 traveled to South Royalton on Sunday for a non-league game with Post 51. Bellows Falls rallied from a 3-1 deficit in the ninth inning to pull out a 4-3 victory. The big blow in that inning was a two-run double by Nick Gendron. Starting pitcher Derek Osborne gave up 6 hits over 8 innings for Post 37, and Jeremy Kilburn pitched a scoreless ninth to pick up a save.
CRVBL roundup
•It was a doubleheader Sunday in the Connecticut River Valley Baseball League.
The Claremont Cardinals swept the Keene Blackdawgs at Barnes Park to take over first place with a 7-2 recond. The Cards won the first game, 14-1, and took the second game, 9-1.
The Chester Pirates fell to second place with a 6-2 record. They split their doubleheader with the Saxtons River Pirates as Saxtons River eked out a 2-1 win in the first game and Chester won the second game, 5-0. Saxtons River is now 2 games out of first with a 5-4 record.
Brattleboro and Putney also split their doubleheader as the Fossils took the first game, 2-0, while the River Rats won the second contest, 3-1. Brattleboro is now in fourth place at 3-5, Putney is 3-6 and Keene remains in the cellar at 2-7.
Putney will make up a non-league game against Saxtons River this Friday at 6 p.m. at Vermont Academy. Saxtons River then has a non-league doubleheader against Norwich on Sunday starting 1 p.m.
Saxtons River will play Bellows Falls Post 37 in an exhibition game as part of the July 4 festivities at 2:30 p.m., preceded by the CRVBL All-Stars taking on the Pioneer Valley all-stars at noon.
